St. Louis Motorcars’ Partner Lost at Young Age of 56
One of Jim Mills’ passions in life was cars, topped only by his family.
As co-owner of St. Louis Motorcars at 1 Arnage Blvd. in Chesterfield, Jim—also known as J.J.—led by example and was considered an amazing person, business partner, boss, mentor, community leader, family member and friend. Unfortunately, on April 8, he died unexpectedly.
England native Graham Hill, who’s been Jim’s business partner since 2000–2001, says he relished teaching Jim the ropes of the auto industry and building a destination dealership together in Chesterfield starting in 2002. Prior to that, J.J. ran a $200 million corporation. He had held positions of increasing responsibility with corporations in the previous 15 years of his business career. He was known for having excellent business experience, knowledge and acumen.
“J.J. was well-rounded, and we traveled all over Europe together,” Graham says. “Some of our best times came from exploring classic and exotic cars.”
St. Louis Motorcars now is a factory-authorized Motorcar Dealership for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Bentley Motors, Aston Martin, Lotus, Lamborghini and Bugatti.
Graham says he focused on sales while J.J. spearheaded operations and services of the dealership. In that capacity, Graham says J.J. often could be found with oil and grease up to his elbows.
“He was always rebuilding things and kept me guessing about what I would see.”
Graham says J.J. was a huge gun enthusiast who also amassed military equipment, such as World War II machines. He adds J.J. also loved his dogs and that he stayed red-eyed for a week after he lost his last one to old age.
Acquaintances say J.J. made others feel as if they were the most special, respected people in the world.
“Everyone loved how engaging he was,” Graham agrees.
