Délicieux Dining in Chesterfield 7

Experience Classic Paris Bistro at Balaban’s

Permeating from the satisfying haven of French cuisine and wines, local food enthusiasts of all levels can secure a palate-expanding experience at Balaban’s bistro in Chesterfield. Because Balaban’s specializes in personalized gatherings, diners can savor traditional café favorites or innovative dishes, whether for a leisurely meal, intimate dinner, casual brunch or special event. Another endearing feature about Balaban’s is that it’s a hybrid restaurant, retail wine store, gift store, catering and event business.

Notably, The World of Fine Wine, a British publication, claims Balaban’s is “the absolute authority on wine in St. Louis,” with 600 to 700 wine selections from around the globe.

Balaban’s customers enjoy best-in-class food flavors from France and Spain, created from fresh, exclusively sourced ingredients. With a tasting menu that pairs specially selected wines to each food course, Balaban’s private wine dinners create an entertaining atmosphere of Paris and Provence. In fact, once a month, Balaban’s hosts a five-course dinner with featured wines from different wine vineyards or world regions.

In addition to Wine and Spirit Wednesdays at Balaban’s, which offer a changing mix of tastings and events, customers can join a wine club that allows members to opt out without penalty and treats them to a wine club pickup party with wine and hors d’oeuvres every month.

The restaurant hosts “Balabargain” every Monday night, which includes three courses for $25 and no corkage fee on retail wine bottles. New barbecue and pasta specials are available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. In general, bottles of wine at Balaban’s are offered at the same prices one finds in wine stores with an $8 corkage fee if consumed in-house.

Being among the best private event spaces in Chesterfield, the restaurant offers custom catering for as many as 80 guests for a sit-down meal or for 100 for a cocktail event, equipped with full audiovisual capabilities.

The original Balaban’s location opened in St. Louis’ Central West End in 1972; after 37 years there, the restaurant was moved west to Chesterfield.

“Café Balaban lives in St. Louis memories as a place for good times, tasty food paired with superb wine and special celebrations. We carry on that history in Chesterfield,” co-owner Brian Underwood says.

Publicly recognized as one of the best restaurants in St. Louis, Balaban’s is one of only two restaurants in Missouri to have been awarded both the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine and The World of Fine Wines’  three-star award for “World’s Best Wine Lists.”

Lunch at Balaban’s is served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., happy hour lasts from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and dinner is served from 4 p.m. to close. Sunday brunch is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Featured desserts include beignets, berry tarts, crème caramel, chocolate pate, pecan pie and cheesecakes.

Balaban’s is a memorable place to celebrate the upcoming Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. Reservations can be made for their brunch, which includes a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, a mimosa or bloody mary. These special brunches also offer prime rib, smoked shrimp, salmon with cucumber crème frâiche, salads, pastries and muffins, an omelet and customized egg station, fruits, casseroles, pastas and classic breakfast foods.
