The Perfect Meet-Up Spot: Unique Menu and Libations Galore

The Scarecrow is truly a restaurant find–located right in the hustle and bustle along Hwy 64/40 on Chesterfield Parkway.  Who knew? With an elaborate and extensive whiskey menu, thorough and all-encompassing wine list and craft beers as well as domestics, this place can provide the libations and ambiance for a perfect meet-up spot. We chose to meet with a group of friends for a mid-week dinner and conversation and found the Scarecrow to be everything we had hoped..and more.

As we had a group of seven with many diverse tastes, appetites and time schedules (sounds like many Chesterfield families), we anticipated the menu at the Scarecrow would be accommodating, varied and delicious. Owner Shawn Mulholland has designed this restaurant for just this purpose, “we have worked hard the past three and a half years to build an atmosphere in which patrons will feel like they are going to hang out at a friend’s house.” The pace is what you make it, service is prompt, courteous and definitely not hurried.  Shawn and his staff take great pride in providing varied seating arrangements for the family meal, the business closing and especially an intimate evening for two.

We started off with a few appetizers for our group, while our friends on a tight time schedule enjoyed the burger and the Hot Pastrami on Pretzel Roll.  An important find, was that Chef Travis Klott is making the corned beef and house smoked pastrami from scratch, and the steaks are hand cut so they are as fresh as possible.

Our appetizers consisted of the Cheese and Sausage Board and the signature appetizer items the Fried Pickles and the Scotch Eggs. The Cheese and Sausage Board provides a varied and essential combination of cheeses and meats. You will absolutely love the tender pork loin and the paprika cheddar cheese in this grouping. We all enjoyed the Fried Pickles with accompanying ranch dressing, and the Scotch Eggs; a quick comment on the Scotch Eggs, this is a crispy sausage wrapped hard boiled egg.  A quite unique menu offering in St. Louis, and this is one delicious appetizer and a real treat for the foodie in you and the “gastropub” fan.

Our entrees consisted of Pan Seared Salmon, Grilled Walleye, Beef Tenderloin with a Peppercorn Sauce and Grilled Scallops, Wild Mushroom Risotto, and Herb Roasted Chicken. The staff did an outstanding job of preparing all of these offerings and the side items were varied from Grilled Asparagus, Flash Fried Spinach, to a Twice Baked Potato with Bleu Cheese and Bacon. The Wild Mushroom Risotto was very earthy and creamy and a real delight on the cool, rainy evening.  We are impressed with the care and thought that Shawn and his staff have taken in the wine offerings and the ability to pair them, masterfully, with the varied menu items.

We finished off our delicious meal with a couple of the dessert items and spoons for everyone.  The Toffee Sundae with Candied Walnuts is truly decadent, and meant to be shared. We also passed along the delicious Heated Fudge Brownie topped with vanilla ice cream. This put the finishing touch on an outstanding evening of food, drink and conversation.

Scarecrow is continuing to evolve, with the addition of  new daily lunch specials and new outside seating and television viewing for the beautiful summer months ahead.  With over 325 various whiskeys, 28 beer taps and over 75 wine selections, patrons of Scarecrow can make this a wonderful meeting place.

We are fortunate to have many dining options in Chesterfield and evening entertainment to meet our diverse tastes and needs.  Here is to hoping you will find the Scarecrow; it is located down the street from STAGES and Delmar Gardens Corporate Office, right in the midst of our beautiful city.
